Do I have to store my
creams in the refrigerator?
In a tropical humid or hot environment most
definitely yes. As you would know this is important
with most food items in these climates to prevent
mould growth. Otherwise storage in a cool bathroom
cupboard is usually fine, but it is a important to
use a spatula in this instance to avoid product
contamination.
Back to the questions

What is the difference between
the Shampoo Bar and the Soap bars?
The Shampoo bar is especially formulated with a
higher percentage of castor and coconut oil -
giving it a slightly softer texture - in order to
give a free flowing bubbly lather which penetrates
the mass of hair effectively.
Back to the questions

Why is sodium hydroxide listed
as a soap ingredient?
This strong alkali is listed as we believe in
listing ALL our ingredients used in manufacture.
However this ingredient is solely the catalyst for
the natural cold pour saponification process - in
other words the alkali reacts with the oils to form
the soap...true natural soap cannot be made without
it - but none remains in the final product as it is
all used in the reaction. In good soap no free
alkali remains.
Back to the questions

Why does your
product have to be in glass?
And why is your product so different?
See our moisture
cream section for information on this.
Back to the questions

Can I use the same cream
for face and hands?
In the case of the Honey and olive cream...yes.
But the other creams would be too light on an area
in such hard use.
Back to the questions

Which product should I use
for eczema?
The product that we recommend is (according to
the skin type) any
cream containing marigold (Calendula officianalis)
infused oil - see ingredients for properties.
Can I use soap on my face?
Back to the questions

Can I use soap on my
face?
Soap is the best thing to thoroughly clean the
face but unfortunately has a bad reputation as
no-one rinses properly. See soaps section for
proper use.
Back to the questions

Most products claim to be
'natural'... What makes your products
different?
'Natural' is the most abused term of the
age...and sells products for the multinationals! As
our air, water, food and skincare products become
(often intentionally) polluted to prolong shelf
life and profits, increasingly concerned and
baffled consumers turn for reassurance to the
universally used term 'Natural'.
Unfortunately, Environmentally-aware consumers
are being doubly misled, with nonrenewable
resources from the petrochemical industry, such as
cheap mineral oil and coal-tar chemicals, used in
the majority of 'naturals'...just read the label!
Indeed, if mainstream manufacturers used the
quantities of Pure Oils and Waxes that we use, the
products would be unmarketable in cost terms!
As for 'herbal' labelling, the law requires only
a trace element, almost homeopathic in quantity, to
be used in a product for it to appear on the label.
These minute traces are of no benefit, and are just
used to sell the 'herbal' product.
US research shows that the contents of the
average department store skincare product costs 8
cents! You are paying the rest to support the US$26
million dollar (average budget expenditure)
advertising/packaging hype!
Unusually, we tell the truth on our labels, and
use large quantities of effective active herbs and
essentials. Amazingly, what you see is honestly
what you get. So, as a totally pure product, our
creams need refrigeration to extend shelf
life...not chemicals!
Back to the questions

How do I check what is in an
'all-natural product'?
Sadly, as the multinational 'Natural' chains
continue to deceive Consumers, it becomes more and
more baffling for you! I suggest that you send us
the label with your order and we will tell you
precisely what the chemical cocktail is.
Alternatively, there are some excellent informative
books around - as people become more aware - such
as 'What's in your Cosmetics' by Aubrey
Hampton.
Back to the questions

Why don't you sell in retail
outlets nationally?
Unfortunately, mass distribution means that
anything that has to sit on the shelf without
refrigeration - food, drink, cosmetics - is heavily
adulterated with often toxic chemicals. Such a
distribution system is not compatible with high
quality truly natural goods.
So, with our truly, 100% chemical free, Fresh
product, we distribute only direct, through our
Skin Deli outlet in Hobart, through local agents,
by Mail Order - usually overnight in Australia, and
now through our new on-line store - to the
Customer, in order to maintain the highest quality.
This makes for a bio-active, truly effective
product, extremely economical in use...just like
organic foods which taste so much better.
Back to the questions

As the product is fresh, how long
will it last?
We recommend that the cream products are used
whilst bio-active and fresh, usually within 4
months of purchase, but if kept in a constant cool
temperature (refrigerated) they will last up to 6
months, or more, in perfect condition.
However, the product is quite robust, and
Customers have told us that they have travelled for
months in tropical climates with no problems!
Ideally, we recommend transferring some to a small
jar which can be used daily.
Back to the questions

Your products are the richest,
most luxurious that I've ever used... Why don't
they sting and burn my skin like others?
Simple! Unlike commercial/mass-produced
skincare' products, we are not selling you an
expensive water and petrochemical/chemical
cocktail, with shelf life and profit as the prime
concern (hence the widespread use of toxic
preservatives, synthetics, fragrances and
colours).
Instead we invest in high quality
ingredients...and although making a quality product
costs more, in other ways it costs less - as our
products are wholly biodegradable they create no
pollution when washed into the environment. (We
hand manufacture in an eco-sensitive way too - no
detergents or chemicals, recycling, reusing
wherever possible).
Skin and Ecological health are our priorities,
so we only use ingredients -certified organic
wherever possible - that you could safely eat, and
that have been tested through the centuries, in
Europe, as safe and effective.
Back to the questions

Why are your products so
'economical'?
A: Because our products are skilfully handmade
the old fashioned way, they are extremely
concentrated (and therefore economical!) and, if
used on damp skin to seal in the moisture, a little
goes a very long way. A common mistake when using
our creams for the first time is to use far too
much. For example, a * teaspoon of cream is usually
enough for the entire face.
As the creams are made with unadulterated
natural waxes and olive oil, they are very rich.
There is a temporary feeling of oiliness, which
disappears in a few minutes as your skin slowly
absorbs the cream. This slower-to-absorb
formulation means that your skin feels 'really
moisturised', and offers long lasting dry skin
relief - usually for 12 hours or more. You can
dilute the products - in your hand, NOT the jar -
ideally with one of the Skin Fresh Mists, to gain
the benefits of the pure flower and herb waters -
to customise it to suit your unique needs.
Use the cream at night as a night cream, and
dilute to a light lotion during the day if you live
in tropical hot zones - where there is more
humidity - for example.
We recognise that everyone has individual needs
and that being able to customise the product to
suit you alone is very important.
Our products are 'the best that (many) have ever
used' as you can see from the small selection
of letters we receive each year, from hundreds
of our customers.
Back to the questions

Most companies recommend endless
products for a 'skincare regimen'... Why don't
you?
I simply don't believe that you need all those
chemically-polluted products repeatedly assaulting
your skin...all they are trying to do is to sell
you more product, by asking you to believe that
each product supports the action of the other,
which, in most cases is not true!
Your skin directly reflects your internal
health, and cannot be 'fixed' by topical
application only. Optimal skin health begins with a
truly organic, chemical-free skincare product, but
must be supported by a healthy diet with sufficient
Omega 3 EFAs (Essential fatty acids), the building
blocks of skin cell health. This is supplied most
effectively by oral /dietary supplementation with
Organic Flax Seed Oil, drinking at least two litres
of water per day to flush toxins from the system,
regular aerobic exercise and daily stress-release
such as meditation.
As well most of our products are multipurpose
anyway - you may use them as you wish - but the
following suggestions may help...
Keep your skin clean - with our Cream cleanser
or Herb and honey soaps - whichever you prefer, then
restore the acid balance with Vinaigre de Toilette
or Skinfresh Mist.
Protection with one of our Moisture creams is
all that you need to effectively maintain supple,
moist and healthy-looking skin.
A pampering, relaxing home Facial - including a
deep-cleansing, circulation boosting Clay mask -
and exfoliation twice a week all help to remove
dulling dead cells and re-oxygenate skin
tissue!
We even have Gift boxes to give you the whole
treat in one...ask us or look in our Online
Store!
Back to the questions

Why don't you use 'convenient'
plastic pump-packs and containers?
Because convenience has a very high
environmental price! Plastics are the environmental
disaster of our age, a byproduct of the
petrochemical industry polluting the planet not
only in terms of discarded rubbish. Research has
shown that harmful toxic chemical softeners used in
plastic manufacture - Phthalates - migrate into
oil-based products and have been implicated as
endocrine system disruptors...in plain terms they
can disrupt human reproduction! (Source: Wildlife
Fund Canada www.canada.org)
We prefer to use only (expensive) amber glass
which is totally inert, and prevents light damage
to the organic contents. It is fully recyclable
and/or refillable - which we actively promote
locally in Hobart with a refill service - Reuse
rather than recycling also means lower energy
use.
Back to the questions

You recommend your soaps for
facial use, something we are warned against...
Why?
This recommendation is generally given because
many people have only experienced the harsh, drying
effects of chemical-laden commercial soap - or more
recently the 100% synthetic detergent bars sold as
'soap-free'! Recently people have rediscovered the
luxurious experience of gentle, mild, traditionally
handmade Herbal Soap, which retains all the natural
skin-softening glycerin. This is usually removed
during commercial manufacture and sold off to
maximise profit...either to the arms or
pharmaceutical industries! I have been a soap and
water gal all my life, and would never give up the
pleasure of feeling really clean and fresh.
Washing your face properly is important (which
most people have never been shown how to do), when
the pleasure of using beautiful, real soap can be
rediscovered!
The secret is to restore the acid balance of the
skin to remove all the dulling traces of alkaline
soap. Simply add a tablespoon of our mineral-rich
Vinaigre de Toilette (Herbal Beauty Vinegar) or
apple Cider vinegar to the last clear rinse
water... This returns the pH balance to its normal
5.5, leaving your skin dewy soft and radiant. You
can feel the difference!
Back to the questions

Why don't you carry a range of
gels, bodywashes or shampoos?
Because we refuse to pollute you or the
ecosystem with the huge range of chemicals used to
create these harsh, highly coloured, fragranced,
drying, supposedly 'natural' products. Synthetic -
often toxic - chemicals, have intruded in all areas
of our lives...read the back of your skincare or
shampoo bottle as one example. They are all based
on a formulation which contains sodium laureth
sulphate, a strong chemical surfactant
(degreasing/foaming agent) which makes the bubbles
that strip the hair of up to 4/5ths of its natural
sebum, leading to even drier hair and scalp, and
severe skin damage and dryness.
This chemical group, which can react with the
other toxic chemicals used in formulations to form
nitrosamines, are known carcinogens, which
penetrate the body through the hair follicle. It
has been shown that one hairwash with the average
'natural??' shampoo will introduce as much nitrate
to the system as one pound of bacon! Indeed the
human body currently hosts more than 300-500
manufactured chemicals. We have tried without
success to gain industry figures as to the
pollutant levels and damage caused, without success
- not surprisingly!!
We prefer the old-fashioned, nonpolluting,
biodegradable approach, using old-fashioned
'shampoo' bars, made with plain coconut, olive and
castor oil, which clean the hair gently and
effectively - just like the days
(pre-shampoo/conditioner consumer madness) when mum
dunked your head under the tap with soap way back
when!! (remember how shiny and soft your hair
was?)
